What does Mercerized mean?

Mercerized cotton has a beautiful luster—the result of a treatment that reduces the natural fuzz along the fiber’s length. The process smoothes the surface of the yarn and in addition to providing sheen it also increases cotton’s ability to absorb dye. The rich saturation of color in mercerized cottons are a dream for the textile artist who revels in beautiful color.

As you might expect, Classic Elite’s Provence comes in a brilliant palette of 44 colors. The number of colors to choose from make this a great yarn for colorwork projects, but the slight cabled texture of the yarn and vibrancy of individual shades make each color a single gem. For your market bag, pick out something tropical with a fruit name—Watermelon or Orange Peal, something soft and vegetable-dye in feeling—Parchment or Herbal sage, or go for a rich, deep hue—Special Walnut, Marine, or French Red.
