How to increase 8 stitches from 1 stitch (m8):

The Pineapple Lace Pattern in Minnie’s Cover Up uses an increase that makes nine stitches in one stitch (increasing 8 stitches). The increase is worked by alternating between knitting and purling in the same stitch a total of nine times before dropping the stitch off the left needle. Increasing this many stitches in a single stitch causes an eyelet or hole in the row below, which fits in neatly with the yarn overs used in the rest of the pattern.

Knit into the next st on the left-hand needle, but do not remove the st from the needle. (Photo 1)

Bring the yarn through the two needles to the front of the work, then purl into the same stitch. (Photo 2)

Bring the yarn through the two needles to the back of the work, then knit into the same stitch.

Work 6 more stitches into the same stitch, alternating purl and knit as before—9 stitches have been worked into the same stitch. (Photo 3)

Slip the stitch off the left-hand needle and continue working in the pattern. (Photo 4)
