How to do the Magic Loop technique:

For those of us who find working with double-pointed needles frustrating, or just plain not-fun, the Magic Loop technique is another technique that could make circular knitting a bit more interesting. We suggest using a 40" circular needle, but some knitters prefer a longer or shorter cord. Try out some different lengths until you find the perfect length for you.

Cast on the required number of sts. Slip all the stitches onto the cable portion of your circular needle; divide them in half, and slide ½ of them onto one needle, and the other ½ onto the other needle as shown to the right.

Step 1: Holding the needles as shown, slide the stitches on the back needle onto the cable. There are now 2 large loops, one to the right, and one to the left of your work. Using the empty needle, work across the front stitches as you normally would.

Step 2: Half of your round is now complete.

Step 3: Slide the stitches in the back from the cable onto the empty needle. Turn your work so it looks like the top photo and repeat steps 1–3 to complete the round,
