How to make a cast-on/bind-off Flower:

Use the backwards-loop method to cast on 5 stitches. Bind off 4 stitches, leaving 1 st on the right-hand needle. Turn.

Repeat the previous 2 steps 3 more times, then fasten off (photo 3). Twist into a flower and use the tail ends to sew onto top of hat.
