What is "at the same time"?

When casting on for a new project, it is important to read through the pattern before beginning to knit. A phrase to look out for is "and at the same time".  When you see these words, you must read the instructions that follow and work them while working the instructions that came before them.

For example, in Tonia’s Little Shell Top pattern the waist increases and neck shaping begin together, when the waist shaping ends the armhole shaping begins—but the neckline shaping continues. They happen at the same time.

Sound tricky? It can be, but if you’re willing to take the time to chart your pattern’s shaping, a visual picture of what you need to do—at the same time—can be very helpful.

For the Little Shell Top pattern, we've charted the Right Front for you.
