Classic Elite Yarns

Issue 488 • Blackthorn Leaf Hats, part 2

Leaf Hats

Last week our leaf hats were worked from the bottom up to the crown. This week we have a hat with leaves cascading from the top down. Just like when knitting a top down sweater, slip the stitches to waste yarn and try as you go to get just the right depth for the perfect fit.

MountainTop Blackthorn

50% wool, 50% superfine alpaca
  • 3-3½ sts/inch on US 11-1½0 (8-6.5 mm) needles
  • 120 yards/100 gram hank
  • handwash cold/dry flat
  • 8 naturally undyed shades

Undyed alpaca and wool merge in a plump, squishy 100 gram hank of fiber scrumptiousness! Part of the MountainTop Collection of yarns spun from natural, undyed fibers, Blackthorn is the soft, chunky counterpart to worsted-weight Vista. The superfine alpaca makes pieces soft and warm, while the wool lends it strength.
