Classic Elite Yarns

Issue 414 – Joni

This week's Web-Letter pattern is an updated version of a Classic Elite pattern from 1987. Designed by the talented Deborah Newton, this sweater is truly a classic and still looks amazing 28 years later! We brought back this pattern, along with three other designs from the CEY archives, in honor of Webs 40th Anniversary celebration last year.

The 1987 version is modeled by a teenaged Uma Thurman and the silhouette had the oversized look of the 1980's with large voluminous sleeves. The yarn used originally is long gone (Boston; 100% wool) so we reknit it in MountainTop Vista. We kept the relaxed feel but updated the fit. Worked in pieces and seamed, the collar of the new version meets at the center instead of overlapping as in the original.

The Yarn

MountainTop Vista
50% Superfine Alpaca • 50% Wool

Vista is a member of the Mountaintop Collection of yarns spun with natural undyed fibers that you have to see and feel to truly appreciate. Vista, which is interchangeable with 100% wool Crestone, is a lovely blend of superfine alpaca and wool in eight natural shades. The blend produces a durable yarn that is long-wearing while still maintaining a soft hand, perfect for all kinds of garments and accessories.
