Issue 370 – Addison in Blackthorn

I recently was invited to the wedding of a lovely young couple. I thought about what I wanted to give them as a gift and decided to make a throw that they could snuggle under. Just big enough to keep them warm, but small enough that they would have to be close to share.

I chose to make it with Blackthorn and knit it at a loose gauge so it would be super soft and drapey. Using a combination of knit and purl stitches makes it reversible with an appealing pattern on both sides.

It is named after the Addison Farms Vineyard where they were married.

The Yarn

Blackthorn
50% Superfine Alpaca • 50% Wool

Undyed alpaca and wool merge in a plump, squishy 100 gram hank of fiber scrumptiousness! Part of the MountainTop Collection of yarns spun from natural, undyed fibers, Blackthorn is the soft, chunky counterpart to worsted-weight Vista. The superfine alpaca makes pieces soft and warm, while the wool lends it strength.

Blackthorn's colorful cousin, Wynter is the same beautiful yarn in a palette of saturated colors. Any pattern written for Blackthorn will knit-up just as beautifully in Wynter.
