Classic Elite Yarns

Issue 345 – Double Strand Cardigan

CEY’s newest collection, All Seasons, features trans-seasonal designs. The collection combines pieces in lightweight yarns for warm weather that can also be layering staples and pieces in unique fiber blends that are both warm and airy. Today’s free pattern is knit in Soft Linen, one of those unique blends.

This simple but sophisticated cardigan has wide garter stitch borders, a stand-up collar, waist shaping and fitted sleeves. The yarn, Soft Linen, is almost equal parts linen, wool and baby alpaca. This year-round blend pairs perfectly with the cardigan: the linen lets the fabric breathe and the animal fibers add softness and insulation.

The Yarn

Soft Linen
35% Linen, 35% Wool, 30% Baby Alpaca

Soft Linen is the perfect yarn for warmer days and cool nights. The alpaca makes a beautiful halo, the linen gives it a crisp and firm hand, and the wool provides stability and its own level of softness. This year-round yarn works equally well for lace, colorwork and textures.

All Seasons – CEY's new collection in June

Soft Linen also makes an appearance in our All Seasons book with Vixen Charm (top left), a shrug with a feminine lace stitch and ribbed edges. Ajee (top center), a wrap with a zig-zag edge, is knit in another trans-seasonal blend: Chesapeake, which is equal parts organic cotton and merino. If you love the versatility of cardigans, then consider Rosette (top right, knit in Inca Alpaca), with lace pockets and cuffs.

The bottom row of designs is a sampling of pieces knit with lightweight yarns from All Seasons. Lacery (bottom left) is a pullover/scarf set in an openwork mesh stitch knit in Vail with stripes of texture in Vista. Alpaca Sox isn’t just for socks, as you can see with Paramount (bottom center), a pullover with cables on the cuffs and waist. It doesn't take fancy stitches to make brand new Villa look great, as with Fortune (bottom right), a tee with a deep v-neck.
