Issue 327 – Ruffle Pullover in Silky Alpaca Lace

In August I designed the Silky Alpaca Lace Ruffle Tank and thought that it might be fun to add sleeves and change the armhole shaping slightly to turn this tank into a fun pullover that has just enough ruffles. It is knit up in lovely Silky Alpaca Lace doubled creating a warm and lightweight piece that can be worn for work or play.

The Yarn

Silky Alpaca Lace
70% alpaca, 30% silk

Silky Alpaca Lace is a beautiful blend of fibers spun into a gossamer yarn that creates an lightweight fabric. The alpaca in this yarn provides warmth and a soft halo, while the silk adds a subtle sheen to the knitted stitches. Worked with larger needles, Silky Alpaca Lace makes lovely, light-as-air shawls, garments and accessories.

Summertime knits in Oceanside

If you love the simple stockinette fabric in this week's issue, then you'll love Morgaine (top left), also knit in Silky Alpaca Lace. This short-sleeved tee has a stockinette stitch body that is trimmed by drop stitch detail on the sleeves. Or, perhaps it's the ruffles on this week's design that caught your eye. Nixie (top center and right) is a sleeveless top in brand new Bella Lino that has ruched accents on the shoulders and a draped neck.

Ambu (bottom left) is another sleeveless top, but with feminine design details completely different from ruffles or ruching. Knit in Provence, Ambu begins with chevron stripes that are then echoed in a simple chevron lace pattern on the upper bodice. If cover-up is what you'fre after, then Marna (bottom center and right) is the perfect choice. This poncho, knit in Seedling, has a hood and is partially seamed up the sides, giving it an easy, no-fuss fit.

These four designs complete our tour of Oceanside, a beautiful new book with designs for warm weather. After all, now is the time to get knitting for the summer, right? With that in mind, we have a brand new collection coming in February that's filled with feminine, summer-friendly designs. Soon we'll also announce a brand-new yarn that we know you're going to love. That's all we can say for now, stay tuned to see what's coming next.
