Issue 320 – Drop Stitch Pullover in La Gran

Re-written and updated with a more modern, slimmer silhouette, this La Gran Drop Stitch Pullover was originally published in the CEY pattern collection in 1994. La Gran has been one of CEY's flagship yarns since the 1980's. Warm and lightweight, mohair knits up quickly and, contrary to popular belief, is a great yarn for novice knitters – the mohair's halo hides uneven stitch tension beautifully.

The Yarn

La Gran
78.4% Mohair, 17.3% Wool, 4.3% Nylon

Our flagship yarn, La Gran is the best mohair on the market. It is available in so many colors, you will find just the right one for your special project!

Mohair is fine and lustrous and has many of the good qualities of wool. It is fairly soft and can absorb moisture yet still feel warm and dry. Knitted on a large needle, this yarn is lightweight and airy. La Gran is spun with a strong binder – a combination of wool and nylon – to secure it. The fluffy surface is the result of a good brushing.

Introducing Cathedral

In Cathedral, our new book this December, we slow down and prepare for the cold months ahead. Our focus is color to add brightness to a grey wintry backdrop. These are the knits that go best with a cup of hot cocoa for hours spent in your favorite knitting spot.

Our tour of Cathedral begins with another pullover knit in La Gran, Trinity (top left). This sweater is worked from the bottom up, including the sleeves, then the pieces are joined and finished with a colorwork yoke. Another seamless knit, Lady of the Lake (top center and right) is a cardigan knit in Magnolia using the same bottom-up technique as Trinity.

Basilica, (bottom right) knit in Color By Kristin, is a turtleneck pullover with bands of Fair Isle at the hem and cuffs. This pullover is also worked fromthe bottom up, but the sleeves are knit separately and set in during finishing. If you like to play with color on smaller projects, Apostle, (bottom center and left) presents endless colorful opportunities in Soft Linen. The bag is knit in the round in a eight-color fair isle pattern (that's correct, eight colors!) then finished with a seam at the cast-on edge and sewn-on handles.

Just like Portraits, our new Cathedral book is available at your LYS and each printed copy comes with a free eBook download. The Cathedral eBook and individual patterns are also available instantly online. Just choose your favorite pattern format, pick your color combinations and you'll be ready to cast on!
