Issue 316 – Braided Cable Vest in Chalet

Super soft and squishy Chalet has rave reviews from knitters everywhere and designer Rachel Henry is no exception. She designed this vest with cabled edges as the perfect layering piece. The cable begins at the center back, wraps around to the front, turns the corner using short rows within the cable pattern, resulting in cables that continue uninterrupted up the fronts. Rachel cleverly included an attached I-cord  to all edges to make finishing a breeze – sew the shoulder seams and you're done!

This pattern will work equally well in Chateau, the dyed version of Chalet, our brand new yarn coming soon to your LYS. View all eight of the vibrant heathery colors of Chateau, and more patterns for Chalet and Chateau in Portraits, our new pattern book for November.

The Yarn

Chalet
70% Baby Alpaca • 30% Bamboo

Chainette yarns are well-deserving of their popularity...the construction simultaneously provides strength and lightness. Add a luxury fiber blend of baby alpaca and bamboo to that inherent lightness and you have Chalet, a decadently soft yarn with a lovely drape in a chunky weight from our MountainTop Collection of yarns spun from natural, undyed fibers. Chalet looks great knit at a wide variety of gauges and textures.

Coming soon to your LYS is Chalet's colorful cousin, Chateau. Chateau is the same super-soft baby alpaca/bamboo blend with a chainette construction. It knits up quickly, which is perfect for last-minute holiday gifts. Chateau debuts with eight vibrant, heathery colors.

Introducing Portraits

Portraits is a gorgeous new book that features 11 of our outstanding yarns. In addition to six pretty little accessories, inside are five quick-to-knit and easy-to-wear sweaters in bulky yarns. Portraits doesn't just have designs, it features variations on those designs. With so many options, we know that there will be something in this new book for everyone. Here's a few designs, each imagined two different ways, from Portraits.

(Left to right) If the soothing melody of Stockinette Stitch sings to to you, Cameo could be the perfect project. Knit it in either Chalet or colorful Chateau and choose between the vest or the long sleeve version. Are cables what you love about this week's free pattern? Then Madeleine, knit in super-bulky Toboggan, is another quick knit adorned with cables. Madeleine also has two variations: an open-front vest or a short-sleeved cardigan.

Venturing away from garments, Madame X is for those who like feminine details and interesting constructions. The scarves, shown in both Liberty Wool Light and Alpaca Sox, are knit in two halves the center down and finished with a knitted-on lace edging, then grafted together.
