Issue 297 – Bryza in Classic Silk

If you aren't familiar with Talitha Kuomi's designs, now is the time to get acquainted. She has contributed to our pattern booklets and past Web-Letters and now she is a contestant on the Fiber Factor (and winner of their first challenge!).

We were delightfully surprised when she paused in her competition knitting to whip up a Web-Letter design for us. Bryza is a skinny scarf in a simple lace pattern. The fringe is cut first so you can knit until you are pleased with the length or run out of yarn. This is a pattern I can imagine as my on-the-go knitting. The 13-stitch rows work up quickly, which is perfect for those 1–5 minute stretches of unoccupied time throughout the day.

The Yarn

Classic Silk
50% cotton, 30% silk, 20% nylon

What a terrific hand! This warm-weather silk/cotton combination has a great nubby look with a little sheen and a great natural silk feel. Classic Silk comes a wonderful variety of colors that look great together and alone.

Atlantis – more designs in Classic Silk

Years before joining CEY, I picked Classic Silk for my first hand knit summer top. No other cotton felt quite like it, and it has worn beautifully through the summers, staying soft and holding its shape, halter ties and all.

(Clockwise from the top left) Poseidon is an easy-to-wear open cardigan with lacy front edges and sleeves; Atlas is a simple sleeveless top with a cable panel on the front and rib on the back; Artemis is a bold color-blocked Henley with shoelace-style detail at the neck; Cleito is a sleeveless cardigan with a striped sideways body and short row collar; and Athena's Wrap (another from Talitha!) is worked sideways with simple eyelets and is shaped with short rows.

Look for the Atlantis pattern booklet at your LYS or purchase the patterns online.
