Issue 236 – Reversible Avenue Cowl

It doesn't take much work to make Avenue look great. While swatching with Avenue, pondering the what does this yarn want to be question, I played with lace, cables and garter stitch with equal success. It isn't surprising, Tian Foley's free Cabled Pullover pattern incorporates cables and lace beautifully.

However, being the fan of mindless TV knitting that I am, I let Avenue do the work for me. The yarn has both crispness and drape, perfect when paired with a simple knit-purl texture that looks equally presentable on both the right and wrong sides. Avenue's crispness gives the stitch pattern just enough definition and the drape makes for a comfy, over-sized cowl. The yarn is mostly Merino but also cool to the touch.

What better yarn to play with as the days get longer and the roar of heaters is replaced by the sounds of spring?

The Yarn:

Avenue
42% extrafine merino, 29% silk, 29% viscose

Avenue is a blend of Merino, viscose and silk. The name is a nod to the city feel of this yarn, a perfect blend of downtown sophistication with the casual comfort of a weekend stroll. It comes in eight beautiful marled colors, but the real draw to this yarn is the drape.
