Issue 232 – Filigree Cap in Kumara

Oh Kumara, why aren't you in every knitter's stash? This is a yarn that needs some cheerleaders! The first time I used it, it was for a man's vest for a friend. Then there was a hat, then a sweater for myself...then another hat! It's incredibly buttery to the touch, and the colors are soft and muted. The undyed camel hair spun into the lofty twist creates a delicate halo and stands out in heathery relief to the extrafine Merino.

Meg is another huge fan of Kumara, and wants you to love it as much as I want you to. A free hat pattern is just the thing! Meg designed this fitted cap with a twisted stitch pattern that really stands out. Be sure to use lofty Kumara to get that stitch pattern to pop. .

The Yarn:

Kumara
85% extrafine Merino • 15% baby camel

Kumara is a blend of extrafine merino and baby camel hair. Merino is a warm and buoyant fiber that takes dyes beautifully; Camel is a super soft fiber that, because of its short staple length, adds a lovely halo.

The Merino component is dyed before it is spun with the undyed camel hair. The blend of dyed and undyed fibers makes soft, muted colors. Kumara's six twisted plies yield great stitch definition.

Do you recognize this woman?

Working at a yarn company is as inspiring as you think it is. Though we are, at our core, a wholesale business who sells to retailers, the romance of being surrounded by shelf after shelf of bright, soft, touchable yarn never quite goes away. Though we all knit, and can often be found after lunch with our projects du jour on our laps, some take it a bit further than others.

Though Meg has been knitting since high school, she started designing and tech editing once she came to work here at Classic Elite Yarns. You may recognize her as one of our most prominent Web-Letter models, but did you know she's also part of the design team here? Head over to the blog to read about her design process and see some of her designs (including a sneak peek of a future free pattern!)
