Issue 228 – Splash of Color Cowl in Liberty Wool

Recently, I approached Tonia about any back-burner ideas she had for the Web-Letter. Reluctantly, she mentioned this cowl, a quick pattern she wrote up and gave to her mother to knit in Liberty Wool. "It isn't really a design," she said. Maybe not to her because Tonia's designs all seem to incorporate cables, lace or unusual constructions.

But to the beginner knitter, the TV knitter, the just enough time for 10 stitches knitter, and the myriad of other knitters who may just want to knit (that's it, just knit), this cowl will be a refreshing break from the norm. Simply cast on, knit and let the unique printed colors of Liberty Wool Print do the work.

This simple concept is quickly spreading with us CEY yarnies – there's a few Splash of Color Cowls in progress here in the office. I've already cast on in one of our brand new colors, Berry Brambles.

The Yarn:

Liberty Wool
100% washable wool

Liberty Wool is a super-soft, washable wool available in solid and printed colors. This yarn's balanced twist will make all stitch combinations pop. With all the great qualities of wool and the ease of machine washability, Liberty Wool knits at a gauge that suits many designs and is ideal for children's pieces as well as those for adults.

Available in 23 Solids and 17 Prints

What else to do with Liberty Wool?

Liberty Wool is a very special yarn indeed. It occupies a completely unique spot in the Classic Elite brand family of yarns. Though we have other variegated/handpainted yarns (Alpaca Sox, Silky Alpaca Lace, Cotton Bam Boo Print, and Seedling Handpaints, coming this Spring), few yarns have the same wild color shifts, long repeats, and cult appeal Liberty Print does.

We are always impressed by how people capitalize on Liberty Print's assets. Tonia's cowl in this Web-Letter is a great example of a simple design with a major "wow" factor... Meg and Chelsea both cast it on in two new colorways as soon as the "pattern" was finalized. Head over to the blog to see some other ways people have used Liberty Wool Print!
