Issue 224 – Lovely Lace Mitts in Lush

We can all breathe a hearty sigh of relief as our lives go back to normal this week. Is there anything better to ease yourself into 2012 than an instant-gratification project that requires just a touch of mental dexterity (ahem, and only one skein of yarn)? These mitts from Sweaterbabe are just the thing, not to mention they're the perfect showcase for some special vintage buttons.

As an angora junkie, I can't sing the praises of Lush loudly enough. In her inimitable book The Knitter's Book of Yarn, Clara Parkes describes angora as having "a warmth that rivals cashmere and softness that rivals quiviut." Not bad for a fraction of the price. Do yourself a favor and pick some up at your LYS, just to give it a little squeeze. You might be hooked!

The Yarn:

Lush
50% wool • 50% angora

Made exclusively for Classic Elite, Lush is just that - luscious!

Lush is a blend of wool and angora spun into a 4 ply worsted-weight yarn. The wool in the mix keeps the yarn stable and sturdy and the twist of the yarn provides a bit of spring. The addition of angora makes the yarn extremely soft and cuddly and provides a lovely even halo.

Working with with Lush is a pleasure–it has the hand of a luxury yarn but without the price.

On the CEY Blog today, an interview with Sweaterbabe!

"As knitters, we can and should knit things that don’t just mimic the styles we could easily find at stores. . . it’s all the fine details, careful knitting, yarn choice, and interesting project elements that make each knitting project worthwhile."

Sweaterbabe is a pretty hard name to forget, and once you see her work, you'll have even more reason to remember it. Katherine Lee has been designing for about 10 years and knitting for over 30. Her designs are flattering and contemporary, and feature special little details that add a touch of femininity. Her fans couldn't agree more; Ravelry shows almost 4,000 projects knit in her designs!
