Issue 222 – Wool Bam Boo Mitts

I am an extreme holiday knitter – almost every person on my list gets something that I hand knit. This year, my project of choice is fingerless mitts. With a little determination and the perfect yarn/pattern combination, I can finish a pair in a day. The yarn can't be too thick or thin and the pattern can't be too complicated but must still be detailed enough to hold my attention.

This week's pattern, the Twisted Stitch Mitts from Amy McElwain, is the perfect pairing. Amy thoroughly wrote the pattern (with separate instructions for the right and left mitts!) so we don't have to think too hard--just swatch, then cast on and knit. The smallest size takes just one ball of Wool Bam Boo, and the pattern is written in four sizes – bound to fit!

(If you're on my list, I'm sorry to ruin the surprise this year. Don't you hope you're the one getting a pair of Twisted Stitch Mitts?)

The Yarn:

Wool Bam Boo
50% wool • 50% bamboo

The softness, drape and exquisite stitch definition of Wool Bam Boo makes it the perfect yarn for sweaters, scarves or just about anything. It's not too heavy and not too thick, at 5½ stitches to the inch, it's just right.

The wool component adds a touch of elasticity, bounce and a slight halo to the yarn, and the bamboo adds the elegant drape and subtle sheen - an ideal combination of fibers.

Also from Classic Elite Yarns:

Vignette, booklet #9164, features four patterns in Wool Bam Boo. Clockwise, starting from the top left, Adorn is a cozy cowl from Meg Myers with a hemmed turtleneck, Collage is a vest from Faina Goberstein with a delicate eyelet pattern and sewn-on edging, Mosaic is a hat from Tonia Barry that does NOT require the use of DPN's (whoo hoo!) and Poetic is a V-neck cardigan with a one button closure, also from Tonia Barry.

All patterns are available for instant download at shop.classiceliteyarns.com or as a complete collection in print from your LYS!
