Web-Letter, Issue 137 – CottonTail Ribs and Stripes Cap

Jil Eaton's CottonTail is a great yarn to knit with for many reasons. Not only is it soft, and a pleasure to knit with, CottonTail is machine washable and dryable, and has a wonderfully whimsical color palette. Almost any combination of two of these bright and cheery colors will make a hat a child will love to wear!

The Story:

Living in Maine, we rarely have an early spring, with frosts right up to Memorial Day and many days of cold, wet, blustery weather. A cotton cap like this ribbed and striped charmer is just the thing to keep you cozy in the chill, spring or fall. Sized from baby to adult you can knit one for the entire family.

Visit the MinnowKnits website.

The Yarn:

CottonTail
100% cotton

Jil's new CottonTail yarn is made in one of the finest mills in Italy. It's a cabled fiber that is smooth in your hands and lovely to wear against your skin. Available in 18 gorgeous, saturated colors. Mix and match to create your own inimitable style.

The Stitches:

The majority of Jil's cap is knit in a 4 x 4 rib pattern. Ribs are a beautiful, functional knitting technique, and when mixed with stripes can add a lot of visual appeal.

Occasionally, however, when moving the yarn from front to back (or back to front) when changing between knitting and purling, a stitch can become loose. When this happens consistently, it forms something called ladders.

Read more about ladders, and what you can do to avoid them.
